Bert is a seasoned executive with 35+ years’ international experience in the energy industry as strategy development and asset leader and has worked in senior advisory roles. He has acquired expertise on setting up greenfield operations and leading large-scale transformations in complex local and global business environments, particularly managing the related risks to strategy, safety and environment, people and organizations, technical, financial, commercial and local politics. He has a history on people focus, building partnerships and delivering the bottom-line results. He is a natural coach for developing people as well as getting things done. He has gained board training and firsthand NED experiences in energy industry, an industrial supervisory body and IT platform start-up. He is passionate to share his experiences as a non-executive director in profit and non-profit boards.

Bert has a seven-year career at QatarEnergy; most recently, as Senior Advisor in Doha, Qatar where he:

• Advised EVP Operations, CEO, and other EVPs on corporate strategies, tactics and best practices to support QatarEnergy production.
• Held responsibility for the definition and delivery of the Operation Excellence Program, People, Processes and Technology.
• Lead and drives own team and develop the Operation Excellence Steering & working Committees.
• Managed the delivery of 3rd Party support (consultancy) contract development in terms of performance, quality and costs.
• Maintain external view on innovation, industry best practices, standards, benchmarks, due diligence, innovative technologies opportunities and learning from incidents.

Bert also served as Technical Director at PETRONAS Carigali (Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia) seconded by Shell where he was responsible for the development of the newly established Technical Directorate.

Earlier in Bert’s career he held many roles:  Vice President Production Excellence at Shell Global Role (NL); including Board of Directors OLNG JV (Oman) ; Board Director at Stichting NAP, a Process Industry Network (NL); Vice President Engineering EMEA, Shell Regional Role (NL); Managing Account Executive. (Shell NL); Asset Manager / Dept Production Director JV. (Sakhalin – Russia) ; Managing Consultant (Shell Netherlands); COO / Deputy CEO JV (OLNG, Sur, Sultanate of Oman); Production Unit Manager roles at Shell Pernis Refinery (NL); Deputy Production Unit Manager at Shell Pernis Refinery (NL); and Process Engineer (Shell NL, Rouen, France).

He currently serves on the Board of Advisors at Deployment Matters and the British School in Amsterdam.

Bert received his B.Sc. & M.Sc., Chemical Engineering from Delta Technical University and Programme Supervisory Board members at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

He is married, has one daughter and two granddaughters. He enjoys reading, travelling, bridge, cycling, swimming, fitness and yoga, and retired football team player.
