Darren Martin has more than 30 years’ experience in the Chemical and Petrochemical industries.  He has held numerous managerial positions and technical roles during his career with Shell.  Most of these positions were focused on managing process safety, health & safety and security risks at specific manufacturing sites and providing technical support to manufacturing sites around the world.   He also has operation experience, as a Production Manager by assuring safe and reliable operation of Process Units, Warehouse operations and Distribution.

Prior to joining Pilko, Darren was the Process Safety Manager at the Shell Deer Park Manufacturing Site which consisted of both Refining and Chemical Operations.  In this role, he managed the Management of Change and Hazard Analysis work processes along with managing the site’s Process Safety Observation Program.  As Leader of the Environmental & Process Safety Steering Team the site achieved the best Process Safety Performance ever.

Darren led or participated in global teams to develop global standards for the Shell Global Manufacturing organization including Management of Change, Hazards & Effects Management Process, Facility Siting, and Permit to Work.   Because of his knowledge and experience, he was frequently asked to participate in HSSE compliance and Management system audits at various Manufacturing sites.  This has allowed Darren to hone his skills in conducting audits and evaluating the health of a site’s HSSE culture.

Darren received his Bachelor of Science, Safety Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science, Engineering Management from the University of Tennessee.   While employed with Shell, he maintained his certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
