Doreen Cole

Executive Advisor


Doreen Cole is an accomplished North American energy executive with over 30 years of experience across the downstream, upstream, mining, power and utilities sectors.

Doreen is the former Executive Vice-President, Downstream for Cenovus Energy. She joined Cenovus in 2021 as the Senior Vice-President, Downstream Manufacturing. In this role she managed downstream operations, overseeing all U.S. refineries and refining joint ventures, Canadian upgrading and refining operations, asphalt terminals, and ethanol plants. She also led the acquisition and integration of the BP Toledo, Ohio refinery into Cenovus, assuming full ownership and operatorship in 2023.

Prior to Cenovus, Doreen spent four years on secondment from Suncor Energy at Syncrude Canada Ltd. as Managing Director and top executive officer, after having served as Suncor’s Senior Vice-President, Maintenance and Reliability, supporting all oil sands operations.  Doreen has held senior leadership positions with EPCOR’s power and electricity divisions including Vice-President, Power Generation and Senior Vice-President, Electricity. She began her career in the energy sector working with Shell Canada in the downstream oil business in various roles including General Manager, Scotford Refinery, General Manager of Business Strategy & Growth, and was also the head of downstream safety and environment.

Doreen holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto and has completed additional business and executive leadership education programs from the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia and Harvard University in Boston. She also has an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and has held board director positions in Alberta with the Fort McMurray Economic Development Corporation and the Keyano College Board of Governors.
