Eamon Chandler brings to Pilko 40+ years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry, with a 39-year career at Shell. After retiring from Shell in 2019, he provided consultancy for a major change process at Astron Energy Cape Town refinery until 2024. Currently, he provides Leadership training on Process Safety, input to design of Process Safety management systems, and works on process safety competence management for various clients.
He is skilled at developing and implementing long-term operational strategies; grounded in hands on asset management, risk management, incident investigation and incident response planning. He has long experience in designing, implementing and managing both Process Safety Management and Risk Management systems.
During his career at Shell, his most recent position was General Manager – Group Technical and Process Safety where he headed the Technical Safety Engineering discipline across all Royal Dutch Shell, driving a continuous improvement in Risk Management and Major Hazard safety performance. Prior to that, he was General Manager Process Safety in the Downstream Division, and a Business Improvement Leader for Europe and Asia Pacific Manufacturing facilities.
Earlier in his career, Eamon filled the positions of Production Manager and Process Engineering Manager at the Stanlow Refinery/Petrochemicals complex in the UK. He also held a variety of chemical engineering roles with Shell, predominantly in process operations including overseas experience in Kenya, and management of engineering and operations teams.
Some of Eamon’s expertise includes:
- Proactive driver for content of annual cross business strategic update to Shell Executive Committee and Company Board; with year-on-year strategy acceptance from 2012 to 2019;
- Fashioned the shape of strategic development of Technical Safety at all levels of the global company, designing corporate performance analysis, the refresh of companywide standards, and implementation of new business controls, multiple Internals Audits;
- Provided subject matter expertise to move major hazard safety performance from a corporate level role. Helped delivered an improvement in key process safety incident metrics across the company whilst in seat; and
- Global owner of corporate Risk management, Process Safety management and Management of Change standards. Designed new tools for managing operational risk competence.
Eamon received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Oxford University. He is Fellow of Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chartered Engineer and was Chair of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Energy Institute, 2005 – 2007. He is currently Chair for the Institute of Chemical Engineering (UK) Hazards conference Technical Committee, a role which includes chairing the annual Hazards conference.
