Frans van de Bergh joins Pilko with 38 years of fire protection and chemical industry leadership in Process Safety, Manufacturing, Project Management and EHS&S. Frans worked for Dow Chemical for 30 years. He was the Corporate Process Safety Director, Chief Process Safety Engineer for the Sadara Chemical Company, KSA. Prior to that he was Associate Process Safety Director for M&E in the Process Safety Technology Center and Process Safety Resource Leader for Europe, Africa, Middle East, India, Asia/Pacific area.

In these roles, he was responsible for the development and application of technology, management systems, and hazard/risk assessment tools designed to protect people, property, and the environment by controlling the risks of unplanned events such as fires, explosions, reactive chemical incidents and chemical releases; including corporate stewardship responsibility to assure that these are appropriately applied in all businesses and applicable functions within the company. In this role Frans was also responsible for implementation of the Dow Chemical Process Safety Program for Mega Projects.

Frans’s expertise is working in teams to evaluate risk/performance and success in guiding those teams in the design of pragmatic technology solutions and procedures to administratively control and improve process safety performance.

Earlier, Frans held several roles at Dow in Loss Control, Manufacturing and Engineering, Reactive Chemicals, Loss Prevention and Process Safety. Prior to Dow, Frans served as Department Head Industrial Fire Prevention for the city of Rotterdam, responsible for the fire prevention and protection in the industrial area of Rotterdam.

Frans received his degree in Chemical Technology from Technological High School in Heerlen in 1978 and the degree as Professional Fire Officer in 1980 from the Academy of the National Fire Brigade.
