Jeremy has 34+ years’ experience working and consulting in specialty chemicals and manufacturing industries. He supports organizations to achieve growth and transformational objectives in Manufacturing and Process Safety, to conduct buy- and sell-side operational due diligence during acquisitions, and to perform organizational assessments to identify and drive performance improvements in Process Safety Management Systems, Manufacturing Excellence, Organizational Design, and New Product Development / Scale-Up / Manufacturing.

Jeremy had a successful career in the chemical industry first in Rohm and Haas Company (R&H) and then in The Dow Chemical Company (TDCC). Jeremy joined R&H in 1988 as a process engineer. He developed and patented a novel process for the manufacture of Butyl Acrylate, then followed the project from laboratory scale through process engineering and design, detailed engineering, construction, and start-up.  Jeremy then transferred into Product Research and Development in R&H Architectural Coatings. Jeremy interfaced with customers to understand product requirements and led project teams to develop and test products before introducing them into the Coatings market after successful product scale-up.  Jeremy continued to lead the organization as the Global Research and Development Director.  Jeremy transferred into manufacturing in 2002 as the Operations Director for Digital Imaging and was responsible for manufacturing and operational concerns. Jeremy transferred into the R&H Global Technology Center Director role in 2004.  Jeremy transitioned the Technology Center into TDCC following an acquisition in 2009 and was responsible for implementing Dow’s Process Safety Standards in R&H’s Emulsion businesses. Jeremy retired from TDCC in 2019 as a Global Process Technology and Technology Center Director for Advanced Polymers where he directed organizations within six Dow businesses with total revenue of $6B: Coating Materials, Adhesives, Plastics Additives, Home and Personal Care, Construction Chemicals, and Oil and Gas Intermediates. He directed teams in Health and Safety, Process Safety, Quality improvements, Manufacturing Plants Improvements, and Technology Centers. He had responsibility for Capital Execution, Reliability, Technology Introduction and Support, External Manufacturing, Competitive Intelligence, Process Automation, New Product Introductions, as well as New Product Scale-Up.

Jeremy has launched a successful consulting career contributing as a lead advisor for Pilko and Associates. A summary of selected assignments is as follows:

  • Review of tolling business to identify growth opportunities for a prospective buyer;
  • Buy-side due diligence of a multi-national biocides company for a top-tier Private Equity buyer to identify operational and safety risks;
  • Sell-side due diligence for a top-five Petrochemical Company interested in understanding transactional risks;
  • Process Safety Assessment at a top-15 global Chemical Manufacturer to identify risks and improvement opportunities to move performance from 4th quartile to top quartile. Recommendations now being implemented;
  • Buy-side due diligence of a multi-national specialty chemical company for a prospective buyer to identify operational and safety risks. Following acquisition, coordinated visits at >20 sites and developed improvement plans worth >$50MM in NPV. Plans are being implemented;
  • Operational assessment of a major manufacturing facility in France of a global specialty chemical firm to identify operational improvement opportunities. Identified ~$50MM NPV opportunities that are now being pursued;
  • Chairman of the Board of a start-up tolling manufacturing business in Michigan, pivoting from a single-product model to a preferred toller. Developed strategy and building team for success;
  • Supported manufacturing organization to understand organizational design and expertise and to drive improvements to accelerate performance improvements.

Jeremy received his PhD and MS, Chemical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, and his BS, Chemical Engineering from the Northwest University, South Africa.

Jeremy is married to Kathleen, and they have three grown children. When not consulting, Jeremy enjoys gardening, golfing, writing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
