Kenan Stevick

Kenan Stevick came to Pilko with 39 years of chemical industry leadership in Process Safety, Manufacturing, Project Management and EHS&S. Kenan has been an independent Process Safety Consultant for the last 4 and a half years. Prior to that, he worked for Dow Chemical for 34 and a half years. He was the Chief Process Safety Engineer and the Global Director of Process Safety at Dow Chemical.

In these roles, he was responsible for the development and application of technology, management systems, and hazard / risk assessment tools designed to protect people, property, and the environment by controlling the risks of unplanned events such as fires, explosions, reactive chemical incidents and chemical releases. He had corporate stewardship responsibility to assure that all these measures were appropriately applied in all businesses and applicable functions within the company. He led the Process Safety Technology Center at Dow consisting of 70 reports, responsible for the development and global application of technology, management systems, and hazard / risk assessment tools.

Kenan led Dow’s Corporate Process Safety Tier 1 & 2 Incident Reduction teams, achieving a 75% reduction in four years resulting in leading the industry in incident rate performance, which continues to this day. He defined and implemented corporate-wide Process Safety Tier 3 & 4 Metrics as leading indicators for Tier 1 & 2 Incidents and had coordination and oversight of legal compliance and risk reduction capital program. Kenan was responsible for coordination and facilitation of facility/business risk classification system for review of facility / business Risk Management Plans with Sr. Executives and Process Safety Management System Reviews with Sr. Executives and the Board of Directors.

Kenan has extensive expertise in working with stakeholders to evaluate risk/performance and success in guiding cross-functional teams in the design of pragmatic technology solutions/administrative controls and driving improved process safety and operational reliability performance.

Earlier, Kenan held several roles at Dow such as Reactive Chemical, Mechanical Integrity, Process Safety Discipline Manager, Production / Site Leader, Global EH&S Business Operations Leader, Responsible Care Leader (EH&S Manager), Engineer/Supervisor/Project Manager/ Plant Manager.

Kenan received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1981 and Six Sigma Black Belt in 2005.
