Marcelo Ognian brings to Pilko 30+ years of HSSE and Process Safety, Operations & Maintenance, Operational Excellence, Commissioning & Start Up, Logistics and 3rd Parties Program management with broadening experiences in North and Latin America regions.

Marcelo is a strongly rounded Operational Excellence, HSSE and Production manager. Marcelo has held a variety of leadership roles in Shell Manufacturing sites since 1989 – 9 years in HSSE management roles and 14 years in Operations and Maintenance management positions in multiple international assignments. Result driven and dedicated, he has wide-ranging experience strengthening organizational and leadership capabilities, improving work processes and delivering sustainable improvements in diverse businesses and working environments.

Prior to joining Pilko, Marcelo was HSSE manager at Shell’s Martinez Refinery in California, where he provided direction and support to site leaders to reduce operational risks, ensure compliance and deliver Goal Zero performance. As such, the site has achieved a significant reduction of total injuries and Environmental non-compliances (+60%), surpassed 7 years without a Lost Time injury and exceeded, for first time a Goal Zero run of more than 1 year without recordable injuries.

Previous to Shell Martinez, Marcelo was Production Manager at Shell’s Buenos Aires Refinery in Argentina, where he led Operations and Maintenance teams (+400 people) to achieve several site’s best ever runs – 11 months without recordable injury, 3 years with no Process Safety Incidents Tier 1 and 3 years with low unplanned downtime (2.8 %) while meeting OPEX plans in a high ROE/Inflation environment. Marcelo also served as Operational Excellence – Program Manager and Senior Principal Consultant at Shell Global Solutions in Houston, where he led and coordinated the development and implementation of Business improvement and Operational Excellence programs for Shell and 3rd party customers of Process & Technology in the US and Latin-America.

Earlier in his career, Marcelo filled many positions at Shell such as Hydroprocessing and Thermal Cracking Manager; Logistics Manager; Refinery Public Relationship Officer; Quality and Environment Manager; Project Technologist; Product Quality and Combustion Technologist; and TA Planner and Coordinator at Shell Argentina.

Marcelo aspires to continue helping organisations to deliver challenging business objectives, apply a balanced range of strategies and tactics and create a culture of achievement based on relationships and collaboration. Role model of Goal Zero behaviours, he is dependable and cooperative manager, self-driven and a team player who can work independently in a dynamic environment. He’s open to change and innovation with a quick grasp to resolve a variety of challenges and opportunities. Marcelo received his Naval Engineering, Mechanical Engineering from the University of Buenos Aires. He completed the Shell Global Business Leadership Program from The Wharton School and his Work Process Master from Hammer & Company – Boston.
