Mark Gallagher
Lead Advisor
Mark Gallagher worked for 30+ years at Shell where he played a leading role in establishing and developing Shell’s global deal integration practice as portfolio management became central to delivering the company’s corporate strategy. The approach integrated value delivery across the whole deal making process with a focus on translating targets into actions, accountability and visibility to underpin successful delivery. This approach became fully embedded in Shell’s global approach to M&A. Mark has continued to advise and consult on M&A Integration since leaving Shell in 2021.
Over his career he has led business operations, managed global transformation projects and enabled step changes through the successful delivery of M&A deals. He set up and led M&A integration across more than 65 deals, spanning a diverse range of businesses and geographies and a full spectrum of acquisitions, divestments, and joint ventures. Notable examples include Shell’s acquisition of BG ($50bn, 5000 staff, multiple geographies), the divestment of Shell’s Oil Sands assets in Canada ($10 billion, 3500 staff) and the complex exit of Shell’s downstream assets in Africa (19 countries, diverse regulatory and business environments).
He is familiar with working with corporations, private equity, traders, and tech start-ups to manage the delivery of complex deals and drive transformational change. He is experienced with taking ambitious, aspirational goals and turning these into innovative yet practical steps to keep the focus on priorities and maintain momentum to deliver the value promised by the deal.
Mark is passionate about learning and developing capability and has developed case studies and lectured at both INSEAD and led the Integration practice within Shell’s Commercial Academy.
