Mike Wirkowski

Executive Advisor


Michael Wirkowski has 40 years of domestic and international executive leadership experience in the refining and petrochemical industry.  He consistently delivers significant value to organizations, improving operational safety, reliability, and profitability.  His hands-on approach and deep understanding of organizational culture, helps him determine and implement lasting bottom-line solutions.

Before joining Pilko, Mike was a Phillips 66 Vice President, leading Refining Business Improvement and Capital Projects.  He recently led a business transformation initiative for both organizations, bringing more than $400 million in transformation savings to the balance sheet.

Mike began his career with Exxon, holding positions of increasing responsibility; including US Economic and Supply Manager in Exxon’s USA Headquarters, and International Business Planning, Transportation, and Supply Manager, in Exxon’s International Headquarters.  In these roles, he consistently found innovative solutions to minimize risk and optimize performance.

At Tosco, Mike was Lead Executive overseeing construction and business development of a new and profitable Polypropylene Business.  He was also part of the M&A acquisition team, building Tosco from one refinery into a powerful seven-refinery downstream company before it was acquired by Phillips.

Mike also served as the Billings, MT Refinery Manager and the Lead UK Executive and General Manager of the Humber Refinery in England.  During this time, he chaired the EU Works Council as Chairman and Senior Director for ConocoPhillips Limited.  Under his leadership, these businesses were transformed into top-tier assets in safety, operational reliability, and profitability.

Michael graduated summa cum laude as a Mechanical Engineer from Rutgers University.  His extensive experience spans business development, economics, and supply; all aspects of plant operations; and project development through execution and startup.

Mike lives in Houston, where he enjoys road cycling, hiking, and traveling with his family and friends in his off time.
