Ted joins Pilko with over 40 years of manufacturing and EH&S experience in global chemical operations. He is experienced in corporate, business and site leadership roles in the materials and resins sectors. He is passionate about helping leaders understand how they can make positive changes to safely deliver on business objectives.

Ted served as the Environmental, Health, and Safety Director for Trinseo, a leading specialty materials company and 2010 spin-off from the Dow Chemical Company. In this role, Ted provided strategic direction and focused leadership as the company transitioned from Dow heritage EHS services and structures to independent fit-for-purpose EHS capabilities. Ted’s stakeholder engagement was a key ingredient in this transition to right sized capabilities.

Ted led the transition to right size all aspects of corporate EHS responsibilities, such as: safety standards, policies and procedures, EH&S organization, process safety, product stewardship, distribution emergency response, corporate crisis readiness, sustainability objectives and reporting, EHS integrated auditing, security, third-party certifications (ACC responsible care, ISO), behavioral safety, safety training, incident investigation and leveraging, EHS goals, plans, and KPIs.

Ted’s leadership resulted in continuous improvement in process safety, spills, and personal injuries. The company’s employees and contractors achieved a global total recordable injury rate of 0.10 – top decile ACC performance. Ted is particularly proud of Safety on Purpose, a major advance in behavioral safety over conventional programs.

Ted also served as a site leader for Dow plants in Ontario and Connecticut where he effectively implemented LEAN manufacturing principles. Ted’s earlier assignments allowed him to become fluent in many aspects of small site operations, such as: optimal organization, personal motivation, maintenance and reliability, quality, process control and automation, capital project management, and operational cost management.

Ted has experience with latex, polystyrene, HIPS, SAN, ABS, compounding, polycarbonate, rubber, and Styrofoam production. He has worked with teammates around the world, supporting and engaging operations in: Sweden, Finland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, Great Britain, Belgium, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Australia, Colombia, Brazil, and Canada.

Ted earned a BSE degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
