Tim Sutherland joins Pilko with 30+ years’ experience in the oil and gas industry.  He recently retired from Chevron as General Manager Reliability where he was responsible for Manufacturing system-wide improvements in operational availability and operating expenses.  He led maintenance and reliability process simplification / standardization efforts, implemented optimized equipment asset strategies including risk-based inspection, and managed multiple OpEx projects in flight – totaling $200MM+ in annual improvement.

Tim’s expertise includes facility management, people leadership, acquisition & integration, vision / operating rhythm / results, benchmarking, change management, design & implementing best practices, employee engagement, government & regulatory, and union relationships.

During his 33-year career at Chevron, Tim held managerial positions including:

General Manager & President, Pasadena Refinery System Inc (PRSI), Pasadena, TX:

  • Directed strategy and day-to-day operations of 115K barrel / day refinery with 700 direct and contracted employees

Acquisition & Integration Manager, Houston, TX:

  • Led due diligence and integration efforts associated with purchase of Pasadena Refinery System from Petrobras.

Maintenance Manager, El Segundo, CA:

  • Steered all maintenance and reliability processes at 300K barrel / day facility with oversight of 1K direct and contract employees

Turnaround Manager, Pascagoula, MS:

  • Managed plant maintenance outages at 350K barrel / day petrochemical complex

Change Management Advisor, Salt Lake City, UT:

  • Delivered corporate manufacturing-wide procurement, reliability, and maintenance standardization project

Maintenance Manager, Salt Lake City, UT:

  • Directed maintenance and reliability processes at 50K barrel / day refinery with oversight of 500 direct and contract personnel at USW-represented site

Tim received his M.S. & B.S., Mechanical Engineering from University California, Davis.  He is based in Houston, TX.
