Wayne Pearce
Executive Advisor
Wayne Pearce brings to Pilko 40+ years energy industry experience, including 20+ in refining and chemicals predominantly in production and corporate roles including HSE and latterly in board positions. He has demonstrated a track record of transformational change across multiple businesses and in specific sites. Prior to his retirement from Shell in 2024, he spent four years seconded as Group SVP HSE in ADNOC in Abu Dhabi.
During Wayne’s time at ADNOC, he:
- Re-invigorated the 100% HSE Culture Transformation Strategy and Process Safety framework which delivered a historically best year for total injury rate in 2023 and lowest ever rate of process safety incidents, both benchmarking at leading global performance levels.
- Created a HSE strategic lens to support ADNOC expansion, both for core Oil and Gas Business and into international markets, JVs and new energies.
- Led the Business Continuity response for ADNOC group to CV19, other natural disasters and geo-political events.
Prior to ADNOC, Wayne spent 12 years filling senior management roles at Shell HQ in The Hague. His most recent was VP, Production Excellence Joint Ventures & Chief Engineering Upstream Production where he was responsible for Production and Process Safety across a portfolio of Upstream assets producing more than 4 MM BOED across nine countries. Prior to that, Wayne was VP Process Safety, HSSE & SP Assurance, creating Shell HSSE & SP Control Framework. Wayne also held the positions of Managing Director, SAPREF Refinery in Republic of South Africa (2004-2008) and Site Manager at NORCO Chemicals, USA (2000-2004).
Wayne’s board-related experience includes:
- Risk Committee member, ADNOC RE Insurance (2022-2024)
- Eight separate board roles for upstream operations spanning Management Committee, Board Alternate, and technical sub committees (2013-2019)
- Advisor on M&A Upstream acquisition for Shell (2018)
Wayne received his BSc Chemical Engineering from University of Bath, UK and INSEAD Leadership Development (Shell training). He is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and Institute of Chemical Engineers. He resides in Abu Dhabi.
